Summer with Soundabout

Summer with Soundabout

I had an action packed July, working on 2 very different festivals. On the 6th July, I represented Soundabout at the Parallel Lifestyle festival of inclusion, and incredibly inspiring and joyful event. I worked with colleagues to provide a fun music session for weary runners, and got to check out what’s available for young people with complex needs. It was also amazing to cheer on some fab athletes taking part in the running and sensory challenges.

On the 24th July, it was amazing to take part in the Musical Theatre Virtual Festival, doing my favourite thing. Breaking down operas and shows to be more accessible and interactive is something I feel passionately about and adore. Preparing and delivering my workshop for the Sound of Music meant I could do a photoshoot with some beautiful goats, and I got to play Maria.

Dido and Aeneas Relaxed

I once again had the joy of working on this very special event in Stroud. This year, we retold the story of Dido and Aeneas, using music by Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi and Monteverdi. As ever, the audience helped to shape the story by being part of both the music and the choreography. It was great to be both singing and devising something for a wonderful audience, and reaching parts of the community often isolated. We were very lucky to have a baroque ensemble accompanying us, in the beautiful Lansdown Hall in Stroud. We are already planning next year’s event.
